European PTA is challenging student scientists to participate in our first ever virtual science fair, sponsored by the Jacobsen Innovation and Creativity Group (JICG)! The goal of the JICG is to encourage all school age children to be creative and explore different areas of STEM while having fun.
This year the Jacobsen Innovation and Creativity Group offer two different challenges for our students, a Frankenstein Technology Challenge and a Recycle Reuse Challenge.
Frankenstein Technology Challenge:
Students have three options within the Frankenstein Technology Challenge:
1. Combine two or more pieces of technology to make a single item that is both improved
and beneficial to others.
2. Take a single piece of technology to improve and become more beneficial to others.
3. Create a brand-new piece of technology.
Here are some questions to think about for this challenge:
Recycle Re-use Challenge:
Students are encouraged to look around their home and recycle bins and determine how items
can either be recycled and reused to create something new or determine a better method to
recycle these items to help our environment.

Here are some questions to think about for this challenge:
- What pieces of technology can you combine together?
- How can you improve the current function of the technology?
- How does the improvements benefit society and/or the environment?
- Is this improvement practical?
Recycle Re-use Challenge:
Students are encouraged to look around their home and recycle bins and determine how items
can either be recycled and reused to create something new or determine a better method to
recycle these items to help our environment.
Here are some questions to think about challenge:
- What items are you using in your project?
- How has your project helped the environment by recycling and reusing the items?
- Is your project an improvement on current methods or a new and innovative approach?
- What STEAM branch have you re-used or recycled your material? (STEAM= Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math
